HEALTH CENTER IN OBO

MODULAR PROTOTYPE

The project aims to respond to the current situation of the Central African Republic. After analyzing the region, Obo was selected as the project site as it was the most deprived area in the country. Initially, the basis of the project was to design a school with a modular structure for future enlargements. After the approval of the approach to the design, the second stage was to develop the project into a health center.

The Central African Republic is known to have a vast amount of natural resources. Timber is considered one of the most essential natural resources for the economy. It exported wood worth 64.6 million U.S dollars in 2011. This covered about 40% of their overall natural resources exported. Most of it indigenous people depend on farming and another form of agriculture as a form of livelihood, their easy access to natural materials such as wood and mad is evident in the materials used in construction.

For too long, African vernacular architecture has been a topic that has been both under-documented and, unfortunately, ignored. People say there needs to be documentation but yet nothing is done. Whether this is due to difficulties in obtaining funding or just apathy, the fact remains that very little data can be found online. There has been a trend for some time now in Western architecture to be more sustainable. With so little information to study it is hard to say, as one cannot make observations with incomplete or partial facts. One thing for certain though, is that we have designed our project with a modern flow but with local materials to promote that there is nothing wrong with this approach.
