SHIFT IN LANDSCAPE

THE RIVER AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE LANDSCAPE

At the bottom of our perception space, there is a deep urban analysis. We preferred to maintain continuity with the project by Siza. Nonetheless, we did not recycle some architectural elements, on the other hand, we decided to create a recurring sequence of space that we can easily perceive in the site before intervention.

We noticed that the concrete platform by Siza is a subdivision of the space following spontaneous levels from the top to the bottom and following the urban surrounding. We did the same maintaining the rotation made by Alvaro Siza. For this reason, the space seems to be completely in continuity with the FAUP structure.

At the same time, we play with materials identifying new references inside the area and closing the circulation between the FAUP and the feral side of the building site. In this way, we create a kind of a student village modifying the purpose of Siza at the beginning of the FAUP construction where the first goal was creating a strong and useful relationship including cars circulation.

In the building site, we deal with two different spaces and our first duty is to create a relationship between these two parts. The main criteria are the different features of these two sides. The FAUP architecture university by Alvaro Siza rises on a strong concrete platform and it changes the skyline facing the coast from the front. A wall marks the division between the environment in front of the FAUP and the concrete artificial platform. The wall is the fundamental element of project generation.
