OLD WEI BRIDGE MUSEUM
MUSEUM AND PARK IN XI'AN
The project aims to create a Museum and a park, regenerating the area surrounding the ruins of the pillars of the old Wei River bridge, found in Xi’an. The pillars discovered, from the Han Chang’an dynasty time, have to be carefully showcased and protected. The masterplan of the park and the museum are based on multiple axes which represent three different situations of the location of the project: the Han Chang’an ax, taken from the old Han Chang’ancity, which was located south of the ruins; the old agricultural fields and the current urban villages axes. The park is connected to a system of green corridors that represents the old Han Changan city walls, giving the actual urban villages new green and public areas. The park itself is developed following the old agricultural fields pattern, mixing green areas, agricultural fields, and water canals, with some service buildings. The building of the museum is developed mainly underground, where the pillars are located. With a system of ramps, we start from the villages and the park, with the heritage axis to enter the museum. following the 3 different exhibitions of the pit areas where the pillars are, and exiting through the terrace of the building which was elevated on purpose to take advantage of the view, create movement, and recall the different landscapes present in the area. Under this elevated path, the park opens its way, with a passage at ground level, allowing the continuity of this element.
